Ready to take your clown to the next level? Clown 3 is all about creating and developing original clown material -from playful improvisation to structured solo pieces. This course is perfect for those who’ve completed Clown 2 or have a solid foundation in clowning and want to explore devising in more depth.
You’ll discover a whole new toolbox of techniques for generating ideas, writing scenes, and turning playful moments into repeatable comedy. There’s still lots of getting up and doing, but this time there’s more writing, more solo work, and more structured ways to shape your clown ideas into performance-ready material.
A mix of improvisation, writing and devising - on your own and in groups
A new set of structured exercises to take home and try out between sessions
More solo work, while still making space for group collaboration and feedback
Space to experiment, share ideas, and refine material week by week
You’ll learn practical tools and theory around:
Heightening, escalation and comic stakes
Rhythm, timing, and grounding your clown
Clarifying and developing the central game of a scene
Creating flexible material that can still respond to a live audience
Whether you’re preparing for a show, building a solo act, or just want to get better at creating funny stuff on your own, this course will give you a playful and practical approach to making original clown comedy. Leave with fresh ideas, clear methods, and the confidence to keep creating.
You’ll get take-home exercises each week to keep the ideas bubbling between sessions. We recommend setting aside 1–3 hours outside of class to explore, write, and play with the material you’re developing.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or already have something in progress, this course meets you where you are. Discover fresh ideas in class or build on existing work - either way, you’ll find new ways to shape and expand your clowning.
This class is slightly smaller than our usual classes to ensure we have enough feedback time for everyone! So get in quick!
This is a brand new course and we're so excited! As such the class content may change slightly in response to what's best for the students.
